The 2026 Emmy Awards nominations came out on July 8, 2026.

Fans were devastated when they learned that the Yellowstone spinoff series, Dutton Ranch, was snubbed ahead of the September 14 ceremony.

The Paramount+ drama didn’t receive any Emmy nominations for a surprising reason.

With the 2026 Emmy Awards nominations coming out on July 8, fans got to see what the Television Academy deemed to be the most worthy performances of the season. While some of our favorites made the list, one hit series surprisingly didn’t: Dutton Ranch.

The latest spinoff in the Yellowstone franchise debuted on Paramount+ back in May, with fans getting reacquainted with Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) as they make a new home in Texas. The show proved to be a massive hit among viewers, and was the biggest TV debut on the streaming site. What’s more, Dutton Ranch got renewed for season 2.

So, why was Dutton Ranch not nominated for the Emmys this year? We did some research and uncovered the real reason: it has to do with the time frame of when the show actually premiered on TV.

According to the Television Academy rulebook, episodes have to air during a specific time period to be eligible for an Emmy Award. Regarding this year’s ceremony, TV shows had to premiere all of their episodes between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026. This means hits like The Pitt, Paradise, and others that were nominated had all the episodes of their respective seasons come out during this time frame.dutt

As for Dutton Ranch, the series premiere occurred on May 15, 2026, and it aired its season 1 finale on July 3, 2026. With the rule about the time frame in play, this meant that Dutton Ranch was ineligible for a nomination at the 2026 Emmy Awards.

While this seems a bit harsh, fans don’t have to worry too much about this snub.

As a report from Gold Derby pointed out, if season 2 premieres within the eligibility period of next year’s Emmy Awards, that means the show would qualify for an award for performances from both seasons 1 and 2. This means there’s a chance to see Dutton Ranch win an Emmy Award … it’ll just be a while before that happens.
